Brotherhood of the Passion

HISTORY OF THE BROTHERHOOD

The Brotherhood of the Passion was founded in Plasencia in 1998 by young brotherhood members belonging to various brotherhoods in the city, who, seeking to breathe new life to our Holy Week, decided to gift Plasencia a new Penitential Brotherhood. The Brotherhood currently has its canonical base in the Parish Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, where its Blessed Sculptures are worshipped.

Brotherhood of the Passion

Interesting facts

The Brotherhood of the Passion undertakes its penitential procession on Easter Monday and also the Procession of the Encounter on Easter Sunday. This Brotherhood, which carries out its procession in the Andalusian style with the procession bearers walking under the religious float and it is not borne on poles, is the protagonist of one of the most special processions of Plasencia’s Holy Week: the Encounter. Both the composition of the floats and the clothing of Christ and the Virgin change from Easter Monday to Easter Sunday, moving away from the mourning of the Passion to the joy of the Resurrection.

  • It was the first brotherhood in Plasencia to wear a medal with the emblem.
  • The Most Holy Mary of the Rosary is the only sculpture in Plasencia which is carried under a canopy.
  • The majority of the Virgin’s procession bearers are women.

Religious Floats

  • Most Holy Mary of the Rosary in Her Greatest Sorrow

The sculpture of the Most Holy Mary of the Rosary in Her Greatest Sorrow is the work of Mr. Antonio J. Dubé de Luque in 2002. This Virgin, who is carried under a canopy, was blessed in the Holy Cathedral Church of Plasencia on 26 October of that same year.

  • Our Father Jesus of the Passion

The sculpture of Our Father Jesus of the Passion is the work of the distinguished Sevillian maker of religious images, Mr. Antonio Joaquín Dubé de Luque, created in 2000 and was blessed in the Holy Cathedral Church of Plasencia on 9 March of the same year. On Easter Monday, Our Father Jesus of the Passion is accompanied in its Tableau Procession by four secondary effigies: Herod Antipas, a Sanhedrite, a Roman centurion and a Roman soldier. On Easter Sunday, the Lord of the Passion's religious float changes its aesthetics so that it is only HE (The Lord) who is carried by his procession bearers) on his religious float.
